I always get amazed whenever I come across sites that talks about funny and weird news. For some reasons there’s something about weird news or stories that always captivate readers (maybe it’s just me).
Here are some collections of the bizarre news items I have gathered and of course I am giving credit to the site owners who posted these odd articles.
1) Spain Enthralled By Wedding of 85-Year-Old Duchess of Alba
Seville, Spain (REUTERS)- Maria del Rosario Cayetena Alfonsa Victoria Eugenia Francisca Fitz-James Stuart y Silva, one of Europe’s wealthiest woman, the 85-year-old Duchess of Alba, married a 61 year-old civil servant, Alfonso Diez, whom the Duchess had been dating since 2008. Her six children was against the wedding plan of their 85 year-old mother, but was softened following the Matriarch’s decision to divide her wealth between her children. The Duchess of Alba holds many titles than Britain’s Queen Elizabeth ll, and she is the third woman to hold her title in her own right. The Duchess of Alba first marriage was in 1947, but the 25 years of marriage ended with her husband’s death. The second marriage to a former Jesuit priest lasted 23 years after the second husband’s death. 2) Chinese Teen Sells Kidney for an iPad2
The 17 year-old Chinese teen known as Zheng, from Huaishan, Ahui Province, was so desperate to acquire an iPad2. And while surfing into the internet, his attention caught an advertisement of Online buying organs, that they are willing to pay RMB 20,000 for a kidney donor. After some negotiations with the “agent”, he traveled to the North of Chenzhou in Hunan Province, where his kidney was removed in a local hospital and was paid RMB 22,000. After three days recovering from the surgery he went home with a new laptop and a new Apple handset. But because of some complications from the surgery and his mom asked where he got the money to able to purchase the laptop and iPad, then he confessed to his mother regarding the selling of his kidney in Chenzhou. They went back to Chenzhou to report to the police but they could no longer trace the “agents” whom Zheng had deal with. 3) Metal Wire Growing from Skin
Noorsyaidah, a 40 year-old, from Sangatta, East Kutai, Indonesian Kindergarten teacher, was suffering for almost 18 years of metal wires popping out from her skin. The metal wires are about 10 to 20 cm long growing on her skin, and claims it hurts her like needles puncturing her skin. She said the wires started growing in 1991, but during the first week, the wires kept falling from her body and disappeared. After a month, wires started to grow and popped out of her skin but did not fall and kept growing. Doctors and scientist have no medical explanation for this phenomenon. 4) Border Officer put His Wife’s On Terrorists List
A wife of an Immigration officer in Britain visited her family in Pakistan, but after her brief vacation she returned to Britain but was not allowed by the airlines and immigration and refused to tell the reason of her hold departure order. She stayed in Pakistan for three years. The husband put her name on the terrorists list when she went back home in Pakistan and the reason why she could not enter Britain. The husband applied for a promotion for a higher level, but he needs to be evaluated and be processed for his accomplishments. Thus, the name of his wife appeared in his terrorist lists, and manipulated the hold order for his wife. He then confessed to his manipulation of the lists, and he was dismissed from his job. 4) Red Tibetan Mastiff Breed, Most Expensive Pet
The Red Tibetan Mastiff dog, is considered the most expensive pet dog in the world, and became a status symbol in China, as how the wealthy Chinese show their wealth. This 11 month-old Mastiff dog named Hong Dong (in Chinese) or Big Splash is the perfect specimen breed according to Lu Liang, a Chinese breeder. He was purchased by a coal baron from North of China for $1.5 million. The Red Tibetan Mastiff dogs are from ancient descent of animals kept by Chinese nomadic tribes. 5) Tata’s Nano, Cheapest Car in the World, Covered in Gold Worth $4.6 Million
Tata Motors, the Indian automaker, produced the cheapest car in the world. This four-passenger car was released on March 2009, primarily for Indian market with a prize of US$3000. Then from the original body of Tata’s Nano car, he covered with 22-karat gold , 33 pounds of silver and 10,000 precious stones and semi-precious gem stones, and the car’s worth is US$4.6 Million.
6) Fern Tree Found Growing in Man’s Lungs
A man from Russia was found with a fern tree growing in his lungs, which he accidentally swallowed many years ago. 7) Mass Nude Israelis Floating in the Dead Sea
There are more than 1000 nude Israelis posed for a photo-shoot for Spencer Tunick, US art photographer, in the Dead Sea, the lowest spot on Earth. According to expert’s study, the Dead Sea could dry out in 2050, and should put urgent study and prevent the sea to dry. Internet Phenomenon “Planking”
A wacky trend that hit the internet and invaded the network, Planking was discovered by Tom Green, the comedian with classic MTV shows that hit in 1990 and lead the way for shows like Jackass. What is “Planking?” Planking is the art of lying face down, with arms on the side and straight position. It sounds funny and stupid, but it was the trend that hit the internet. Seven Doctors and nurses of an emergency ward hospital in Swindon, England was suspended from their duties, after posing for the internet latest craze called “planking” or lying down game. 9) Tha Sophat, 20-month-old-Baby Suckle from Cow
Tha Sophat the 20 month-old baby from Koak Roka Village, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia, suck milk from a mother cow, which he observed from the calf doing it. 10) No More Cigarettes for Shirley (Malaysian Orangutan)
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (AP): Government authorities saved an adult ape from a state-run-zoo in southern Johor state, Malaysia, were the authorities saw the poor condition of the zoo animals. The Melaka Zoo Director Ahmad Azhar Mohamed said, the ape, named Shirley, was given lit cigarettes by visitors, and the ape mimic of smoking cigarette. Now the Director prohibit giving cigarette to Shirley, as he quoted “smoking is not a normal behavior for orangutans. I would say she is not addicted but she might have form a habit of mimicking human beings smoking around her”.
11) Chinese Condoms not Fit for South Africans
The Finance Ministry awarded a contract to Siqamba Medical firm, in which they plan to purchase the Phoenurse condoms from China, Beeld newspaper revealed. But a rival firm, the Sekunjalo Investments Corporation, appealed to the higher court in Pretoria after losing the bid and argument on condoms are 20 percent larger than the Chinese condoms. And the ruling by Judge Sulet Potterill, was to stop the deal with the Siqamba Medical firm, and said that the condoms from China are too small and made from the wrong materials and was not approved by the World Health Organization (WHO). 12) Japanese Girl Delighted by Bottle Found in Hawaii
A Japanese girl was so happy to hear that the bottle she threw out in the sea some five years ago, after her Grade 6th graduation, was found in Hawaii by US Navy 2nd Class Jon Moore during their cleaning operations at the Pacific Missile Range facility in Kauai Island, Hawaii. Inside the bottle Petty Officer Jon Moore, found four Origami cranes, Grade six class picture and a note dated March 25, 2006 owned by Arikawa from Kagoshima, Japan. 14) Ultra-Orthodox Ritual on Jewish Holiday
The Ultra-Orthodox Jewish in Beni Brak, Tel Aviv, Israel marked their Yom Kipper holiday, the Day of Atonement which starts Friday, October 7, 2011, and observe the Day of Atonement by a 25 hours fasting and prayers. 15) The Shocking X-Ray Result
A South Korean man after complaining of severe headache was brought to a local hospital in Seoul, and the doctors attending to him discovered a 5 centimeter nail stuck on his head, and doctors said the nail was stuck in his head four years ago in an accident, without knowing it. 18) Longest Living Creatures in the World
A French woman , Jeanne Louise Calment, born February 21, 1875 and passed away on August 4, 1997 at the age of 122 year old and 164 days, and was recorded as the oldest human being. She outlived her both daughters and only grandson. Her father was 94 years old when he died while her mom was 86 years old.
The giant lobster was born in 1869, and was picked up in the icy water of the Atlantic. Then the manager of the City Crab and Seafood Restaurant bought George for $100, and said the lobster’s age can be estimated by its weight and increase every seven to ten years of its life. Peta, the animal rights organization was tipped off about George, that he lived in a tiny tank, and the restaurant owner was advised over an argument and released George back into the deep.
A saltwater edible clam called geoduck clam (pronounced as “gooey duck), are a native species of the Pacific Northwest of the US and coastal areas of Britisg Columbia, Canada. The odd-looking seafood delicacy, usually burrowed in the muddy waters. The oldest geoduck recorded was 160 years old; and according to studies, the geoducks lived between 140 years old to 160 when not hunted by predators or consumed by humans. Scientists said that the reason for their long life is the low wear and tear and nothing to do much in order to live.
The Bowhead whale sometimes called the “old men of the sea”, and the oldest mammals in earth and can live in an average age of 100 to 200 years old. The oldest ever documented bowhead whale is 211 years old. Scientists determined the ages of the whale by tracking the changes of the amino acids in the lenses of the whale’s eyes. Craig George, a marine Biologists, discovered the key of long life existence of the whales saying, “the bowhead’s tough environment, living in cold water with less abundant food, and maintain their body mass, an effective system for fat storage and an efficient mechanism to keep them warm and the stress of living in arctic waters may nurture the slow growth and long life of the whales.
One of the longest vertebrae recorded was Koi fish named, Hanako or “Flower Maid” in English, proof that women lives longer than men. Hanako died in 1977 at the age of 226 years old, born in 1751, 25 years before American Independence. Her age was determined through her scale which was examined carefully.
Addwaita, the tortoise that lived in Bengal, was estimated 255 years old when it died. The tortoise aged was verified through a technique and some studies of “carbon dating”, and confirmed that Addwaita, was the oldest tortoise of the modern times. His shell cracked causing a wound that developed some months before he died and had liver failure that caused his death in March, some five years ago.
Another seafood delicacy known as Quahog clam and sets the record in the animal kingdom for its oldest age. In 2007, off the coast of Iceland, a specimen of clams was detached from their shells, counting each ring to determine the clam’s ages. The Antartica Islandica or Quahog clam, was claimed the longest living species of animal recorded by Bangor University researchers. The Clam was named “Ming” after the Chinese Dynasty when the clam was born. But Ming died, while researchers are forming studies and research.
One specimen of this slow-growing Antartic Ocean dweller, was estimated to be 1150 years old, maybe was living in 461 AD, the same year of St Patrick’s death on March 17. The Antartic sponge, with a plant-look-alike, was considered living creature with its lack of exertion and grow slowly, contributing to long life span.
Topping the list of the oldest creature in the world in terms of no natural limit to its life span, is the Turriptosis Nutricula or known as the “immortal jellyfish”, the unique species, according to Marine Biologists at the Smithsonian Tropical Marine Institute in Florida. Turriptosis Nutricula are native to the salt waters of the Caribbean sea, but also seen in Spain, Italy, Japan and the Atlantic side of Panama. The tiny transparent, which is about the size of a fingernail, can regenerate its entire body over and over again, a process called “transdifferentiation”, as it can able to turn one type of cell into another.
19) Geckos Saved From Traders in the Philippines
The Philippine authorities warned against gecko hunters and sell it internationally and locally, making believe that geckos can cure AIDS and impotence, following folklore tales and practiced in Asia. These beliefs may put human at risks. Environmental officials expressed alarming growing trade of geckos in the market.
