In my previous blog, I posted some scary facts regarding obesity, which is the opposite of my topic today, an eating disorder and improper dieting. Anorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder or psychiatric abnormal eating behavior and self-induced weight loss. Person with Anorexia Nervosa have the fear of gaining weight or even they are already underweight, they still think they are fat. They continue to purge their self or induced whatever food they consumed by using diet pills, excessive exercises, or insert their fingers on their mouth to induce vomiting. Bulimia Nervosa, is also an eating disorder just like the Anorexia, but the bulimic patients, eat excessively or uncontrolled indulgence in food intakes, and after eating they induced or purged and get rid of the food they have consumed. The bulimic usually used laxative pills, diuretics (increasing the volume of urine by using medicinal substance), diet tea causing repeated loose bowel movement or excessive sweating by extreme exercise and inserting fingers in their mouth and throat to induced vomiting. Anorexia also causes the risks of dehydration or excessive drying of body fluids which could be very fatal.
Signs ans Symptoms of Bulimia Nervosa: Rapid and uncontrolled eating disorder, abdominal pains followed by self-induced vomiting or other kinds of purging, heartburn or chronic gastric reflux every after meal, dehydration and low potassium blood levels (hypokalemia) caused by frequent vomiting, cardiac arrest that leads to death, inflammation of the esophagus or may lead to rapture of esophageal wall (Boerhaave syndrome) and oral trauma, caused by repeated insertion of fingers into their mouth and throat. Severe Dental Erosion, is one of the most visible signs of patients with Bulimia, known as Perimolysis and swollen salivary glands.

Nicole Camille Richie born on September 21,1981 (real name, Nicole Camille Escovedo) legally adopted by soul singer Lionel Richie and wife, Brenda Harvey Richie. Nicole Richie is an American TV personality, fashion designer, socialite and model. Medical experts say, that Nicole is battling from Anorexia Nervosa, with problem on alcoholism and cocaine. Nicole Richie and Joel Madden had a daughter named, Harlow and a son, Sparrow.
2) Paris Hilton
Paris Whitney Hilton was born on February 17, 1981 a famous celebrity and socialite, heiress and businesswoman. Some rumors spread that Hilton has eating disorder and many of her friends believed she was suffering from bulimia nervosa.
3) Calista Flockhart
Calista Kay Flockhart was born on November 11, 1964, married to American actor Harrison Ford. There was an speculation that the ultra thin actress was having an eating disorder and that she was battling from Anorexia. Flockhart denied to the rumors, but admitted that she have eating disorder.
4) Mary Kate Olsen (Olsen Twins)
Mary Kate Olsen was born on June 13, 1986, and started her showbiz career with her twin, Ashley in the television series, Full House. Mary Kate Olsen was admitted for her eating disorder or Anorexia Nervosa. After some series of treatment, it appeared that Mary Kate Olsen is still battling for eating disorders.
5) Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice of Spice Girls)
Geraldine Estelle “Geri” Halliwell, is an English pop singer and song writer, actress and author. She was named Ginger of the Spice Girls group in 1996. On May 30, 1998, Halliwell left the Spice Girls group due to misunderstanding and differences with the group and depression. On May 14, 2006 Halliwell gave birth by caesarian section to a baby girl she named Bluebell Madonna, and reported father of her child is a British screenwriter, journalist and film director, Sacha Gervasi. Halliwell admitted that she was suffering from Bulimia nervosa or eating disorder for several years. Realizing that she was bulimic and anorexic she seek for medical attention, and she had the disorder since her childhood.

Victoria Caroline Adams-Beckham, born April 17, 1974, an English singer-songwriter, dancer, model and fashion designer and businesswoman, married to famous footballer, David Beckham. Victoria Beckham, famously known as Posh Spice from all-female group the Spice Girls. There was speculations that Victoria suffered from Anorexia Nervosa due to depressions, in which she had denied.
7) Melanie Chrisholm, Sport Spice of Spice Grils
Melanie Jane Chrisholm, born on January 12, 1974 is an English singer-songwriter, businesswoman and actress, best known as Sporty Spice of all-female group, Spice Girls. Chrisholm never denied that she was facing eating disorder called bulimia and suffering from clinical depression. She was battling for bulimia throughout her life. She have a total of eleven tattoos in her body.

Oprah Winfrey
Oprah Winfrey, born Orpah Gail Winfrey, on January 29, 1954 is America’s one of the most influential celebrity, talk show TV host, actress, producer and Philanthropist. She claimed that she became overweight because of depressions and suffered eating disorders. She revealed using crack cocaine with the man she had loved before. Oprah admitted that it was a struggle to lose weight and have eating disorders or bulimia nervosa.
9) Paula Abdul
Paula Julie Abdul or best known as Paula Abdul, born on June 19, 1962, an American singer and dancer, TV reality co-host and judges in American Idol and X Factor with Simon Cowell, keeps her weight and figure in trim. She employed the Hollywood Nutritionists, Yolanda Berman to keep an eye on her cupboards, pantry and refrigerator. Paula once thought that eating whatever you want, and purging out the food intake in the bathroom is just proper. But then she have to fight for her eating disorder, bulimia or it may come into worst.
10) Sharon Osbourne
Born Sharon Rachel Arden on October 9, 1952, married to Ozzy Osbourne, who survived colon cancer in the past. Sharon admitted she was suffering from bulimia for 35 years and still fighting for her eating disorders. Sharon underwent a gastric bypass surgery, and still struggling for bulimia disorder.
11) Whitney Houston
Born Whitney Elizabeth Houston on August 9, 1963, a mezzo-soprano singer, an American actress, R&B Pop Singer, motion picture produce and former fashion model. She was inspired by her mother Cissy Houston, a soul singer and Gospel singer, her cousins Dionne Warwick and Dee Dee Warwick and godmother Aretha Franklin. After her marriage failed, Houston was seen in devastating image and admitted that she was hooked into drugs and alcohol and facing eating disorder. In May 2011, she enrolled herself in a rehabilitation center as an out-patient.

Alanis Nadine Morissette, born June 1, 1974 is a Canadian-American singer and songwriter, record producer, actress and guitarist, admitted she had Anorexia eating disorder. She overcome this eating disorder, but she maintained a vegetarian diet.
12) Daniel Johns
Daniel Paul Johns, born on April 22, 1979 is an Australian musician, vocalist, guitarist and pianist and composer, and Silverchair band’s lead singer . He was 14 years old, when he started his career as band performer. He suffered depression in the late 1997, due to pressures of rumors that he was addicted to drugs and eating disorder. In an interview in Rolling Stone Australia, he admitted that he is battling with Anorexia nervosa, and claimed he weighed 50 kilogram (110lbs) in his thinnest. He was diagnosed reactive arthritis, a rare but serious disease and underwent treatment in Los Angeles. On New Year’s Eve 2003, Johns married Australian singer-actress, Natalie Imbruglia, but divorced on January 4, 2008, but they remained friends. After six months, johns started dating Australian model, Louise Van der Vorst, and now leaving together in Newcastle.

Karen Carpenter -anorexia
In the late 70′s and early 80s, Anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder in which was a little-known illness and causes severe loss of weight. But the sudden death of Karen Carpenter shocked the world, and later did recognized that anorexia nervosa is fatal. Born Karen Anne Carpenter on March 2, 1950, died of heart attack due to anorexia nervosa on February 4, 1983 at the age of 32. She weighed only 80 pounds during her death, thus her death, was the beginning of awareness on the danger of improper diet or weight loss called Anorexia nervosa.
14) Ana Carolina Reston, Brazil Model
Ana Carolina Reston Macan was born June 4, 1985 and died at the age of 21 on November 15, 2006 due to kidney malfunction caused by Anorexia nervosa. The Brazilian model had her first overseas trip in Guangzhou, China for a modeling contract in 2004, but received some criticism that she was “too fat”. On October 25, 2006 she was hospitalized due to kidney malfunction and starvation, due to Anorexia and bulimia nervosa, weighing only 40kg (88lbs) at her height of 1.73 (5’8″). According to her mom, Reston was having only an apple and tomatoes for her diet. Her BMI or Body Mass Index is only 13.4. According to WHO (World Health Organization), below the index value of 16 is considered to be starvation.
15) Luisel Ramos, Uruguay Model died at age 22
Luisel Ramos born April 12, 1984, a Uruguayan model, died of heart failure at the age of 22 on August 2, 2006. Luisel Ramos collapsed on her way to the dressing room after a walk at the runway. According to her father she ate only lettuce and diet coke for her meal for three months before her death. She have younger sister, an 18 year-old model who met the same fate with her, following her death after a year due to suspected anorexia nervosa.
16) Eliana “Elle” Ramos, Uruguay Model
Eliana “Elle” Ramos, born on December 23, 1988, a Uruguayan model, younger sister of Luisel Ramos, died of suspected Anorexia nervosa on February 13, 2007, after a year of Luisel’s death.
17) Isabelle Caro, French Model
Isabelle Caro, was born on September 12, 1982 and died on November 17, 2010 at the age of 28, due to acute respiratory disease caused by Anorexia nervosa, which she had acquired since age 13. In an interview, she revealed that she had a “troubled childhood”, in which her mom “prevented” her to grow up, and didn’t allow her to go outside her home, for the reason that the “wind” will make her grow fast. Before her coma and death, she made an advertisement campaign on “No Anorexia”, showing her nude skinny body, taken by photographer Oliviero Toscani. On January 18, 2011, her mother committed suicide blaming herself on Isabelle’s death, just two months after Isabelle Caro’s death.
18) Princess Leila Pahlavi, died at age 31 of Anorexia
Leila Pahlavi, born on March 27, 1970 was the youngest daughter of the late Shah of Iran. She was addicted to barbiturates, instead of taking two tablet, she was taking 40 tablets, with the stolen prescription from her physician’s desks, to feed her fatal addiction to the said drugs. She was found dead in her private suite in Leonard Hotel in London on June 10, 2001 at the age of 31. Pahlavi, a one time model of Valentino, was suffering from anorexia nervosa, chronic low self-esteem, severe depression and chronic fatigued syndrome.
19) Christy Henrich, Gymnast Olympic Player
Christy Henrich, was born on July 18, 1972, a US Olympic Gymnast player, was told once by a judge “to lose weight”, in order to make the Olympic team. She then have an apple diet a day and became anorexic and died of multiple organ failure at the age of 22, on July 26, 1994.
20 ) Heidi Guenther, Ballerina died of Anorexia Nervosa at age 22
Heidi Guenther, a young ballet dancer, died of Anorexia nervosa since she was told that at 5’5″ tall and 96 lbs in weight, she looks “chunky”. She went on a diet that caused her life, and died at the age of 22.
I can only hope that the sports world, modeling and other industries begin to realize the great harm they are causing young women.
