Celebrity Odd Jobs Before Becoming Rich and Famous

Odd meaning unpaired, occasional, strange or unusual, or a person who is look upon as eccentric with strange job as a regular activity performed by an individual to earn money. An ordinary person usually begins a job by becoming an employee,a volunteer or maybe staring up a new small business. A job duration, in an odd jobs case, may range from an hour basis, full time, part time, temporary odd jobs, seasonal or self-employment. Most job’s series of a person holds in their life is their career. There are a variety of jobs that every person can choose as an occupation for which they have received training or a degree. People who cannot acquire good and permanent jobs, can work  odd jobs, such as part-time work being a handyman, housekeeping or stay unemployed. The practice of holding an additional jobs, often at night, as their part time odd jobs, in addition to one’s main job, commonly to earn extra income to pay rent and other bills is called moonlighting. Thus most person who moonlights may have little time left for resting, sleep or leisure activities.

1) Jim Carrey

Canadian-American actor, comedian and producer, Jim Carrey, born James Eugene ‘Jim’ Carrey, best known for his highly energetic slapstick comedy performances, and described as one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood. Jim Carrey was raised as Roman Catholic by parents, Percy Carrey a musician and accountant and mother Kathleen Oram-Carrey, a homemaker. He has three older siblings, John, Patricia, and Rita. Jim Carrey revealed, that his father as a musician, the only regular job he had to support the family, is not more than enough. And when his father loss his job, everything fell apart. The family struggle for poverty from ‘lower middle class’ to ‘poor’. Carrey revealed that they were living out of a van. I quit school at age 15 to begin working to help support my family as a janitor. Carrey stated, “I’d have a baseball bat on my janitor cart because I was so angry. I just wanted to beat the heck out of something”. Carrey also revealed that he never finished high school because he worked full-time to help his family survived the severe economic hardship, and also helped care for his mother who battled a severe, chronic illness. While struggling to obtain work and making a name for himself, Jim Carrey’s father decided to help the young comedian put together a stage act, driving him to Toronto to his first act to debut at Yuk Yuk’s comedy club. Carrey’s impersonations did poorly and this gave him doubts about his capability as a professional entertainer, and that time, his family, were facing financial difficulties to support Jim Carrey’s ambitions. At an unspecified later time, the family’s dealt with financial difficulties was over and moved into a new home. Jim Carrey  signed to open Dangerfield’s tour performance when he was noticed by comedian Rodney Dangerfield,  and eventually brought Carrey to Las Vegas, after which he decided to move to Hollywood.

2) Ellen DeGeneres

American actress, television host and stand-up comedian Ellen Lee DeGeneres, hosted the television talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show  since 2003. She is the daughter of Elizabeth Jane Betty Pfeffer, a speech therapist, and Elliott Everett DeGeneres, an insurance agent. Ellen DeGeneres has one brother, Vance,a musician and producer. She was raised as a Christian Scientist until age 13. Her parents filed for separation and were divorced the following year in 1973. Ellen’s mother married Roy Gruessendorf, a salesman. Ellen moved with her mother Betty Jane and stepfather Gruessendorf from the New Orleans to Atlanta, Texas, while her brother, Vance stayed with his birth father.After one semester, Ellen left school to do clerical work in a law firm with her cousin Laura Gillen. She also held a odd jobs such as selling clothes at the chain store the Merry-Go-Round at the Lakeside Shopping Center, also work at J.C. Penny, and worked as waitress at TGI Friday’s and another restaurant, a house painter, a hostess, and a bartender. She relates much of her childhood and career experiences in her comedic work. Ellen DeGeneres revealed to her studio audience, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show episode on February 9, 2011  via a letter from the New England Genealogical Society that she is the 15th cousin of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge via their shared common ancestor Thomas Fairfax.

3) Puff Daddy

Sean John Combs also known by his stage names Puff Daddy, Diddy, and P. Diddy, is an American rapper, record producer, actor, and entrepreneur. Sean Combs was born in a public housing project in Harlem, New York City, and grew up in Mount Vernon, New York. His mother Janice was a model and teacher’s assistant, while his father, Melvin Combs, was an associate of convicted Frank Lucas, New York drug dealer, and at age 33, Melvin Combs was shot to death while sitting in his car in Central Park West, Sean was still a child. Sean Combs said that he was given the nickname “Puff” as a child because he would “huff and puff” when he was angry, and “Daddy” is another “player’s” version. P. Diddy worked an odd job as a toilet cleaner as revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sean Combs stated that he cleaned the bathrooms in El Terito, a Mexican restaurant.

4) Madonna

American singer-songwriter, actress, author, director, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Madonna Louise Ciccone, better known as Madonna. She is the daughter of Silvio Anthony Ciccone worked as a design engineer for Chrysler and General Motors, while her mother, Madonna Louise Fortin- Ciccone died of breast cancer at the age of 30 in 1963. The family members called Madonna as “Little Nonni”, having the same name with her mother. Madonna was raised in the Roman Catholic faith. In 1966, upon receiving confirmation, she adopted an additional confirmation name Veronica. She was the third of six children from her father’s first marriage, and her full-blood siblings were  Martin, Anthony, Paula, Christopher G. Ciccone (American artist, film director, artistic director, dancer, best selling author, and interior and furniture designer), and Melanie. In 1966, her father married the family’s housekeeper Joan Gustafson, and they had two children: Jennifer and Mario Ciccone. Madonna began to express unresolved feelings of anger towards her father that lasted for decades, and developed a rebellious attitude. That time, Madonna, had little money and worked as a waitress at Dunkin’ Donuts and lived with her modern dance troupes. Then she moved to New York, and Madonna stated in her interview, “It was the first time I’d ever taken a plane, the first time I’d ever gotten a taxi cab. I came here with $35 in my pocket. It was the bravest thing I’d ever done.” Madonna started to work as a backup dancer for other established artists.

5) Hugh Jackman

Australian actor and producer who is involved in film, musical theater, and television, Hugh Michael Jackman, or known for his screen name as Hugh Jackman, best known for his long-running X-Men film series role as Wolverine. Born to Grace McNeil Greenwood and Christopher John Jackman, a Cambridge-trained accountant. In 1967, his English-born parents, and had come to Australia, as part of the Ten Pound Poms immigration (also called Ten Pound Tourists). Jackman has four older siblings, and was the second of his parents’ children to be born in Australia. He was eight years old when his parents divorces, and his mother married again and has a younger half-sister. Hugh Jackman stayed with his father in Australia with his two brothers, while his mother moved back to England with Jackman’s two sisters. As a child, Jackman love the outdoors, and he wanted to to be a chef on a plane. He said, ” I’d been on a plane and there was food on board, I presumed there was a chef. I thought that would be an ideal job.” Before Hugh Jackman’s acting career, and was named Sexiest Man Alive in 2008, the hunky Hugh Jackman revealed that he worked an odd job as Coco, the party clown for three years and earned fifty bucks.

6) Nicole Kidman

Australian actress, singer and film producer Nicole Mary Kidman, her film career began in 1983. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, while her Australian parents were temporarily in the United States on educational visas. Kidman can claim citizenship in Australia and the United States. Her father, Antony David Kidman, is a biochemist, clinical psychologist and author, while her mother  Janelle Ann Glenny-Kidman, is a nursing instructor  and responsible for editing her husband’s books. Nicole Kidman was age four, when the family returned to Australia, and residing on Sydney’s North Shore. Nicole Kidman’s younger sister, Antonia Kidman, a journalist and TV presenter. Kidman’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, in 1984, which caused her to quit temporarily from her education and help provide for the family by working as a massage therapist, at age seventeen. She attended the Australian Theater for Young People, and took up drama, mime (imitator actor) and performing in her teens, finding acting to be a shelter. Because of Kidman’s fair skin and naturally red hair, the Australian sun forced the young Kidman to rehearse in theater’s halls and became regular at the Phillip Street Theatre, and received both encouragement and praise to pursue full-time acting. Nicole Kidman is married to country singer Keith Urban. 

7) Johnny Depp

American actor, film producer, and musician John Christopher “Johnny” Depp II, better known as Johnny Depp, famous for his role as the pirate Captain Jack Sparrow  2003 Walt Disney Pictures movie Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. All films featuring Depp have grossed over $3.1 billion at the United States box office and over $7.6 billion worldwide. Depp has been listed in the 2012 Guinness Book of World Records as the highest paid actor, with $75 million. Johnny Depp is the youngest of four children of Betty Sue Palmer Wells,, a waitress, and John Christopher Depp, a civil engineer.  Johnny Depp was 15, when his parents divorced. and stayed with his mother and stepfather. He was 12 years old when he received a guitar gift from his mother, and began playing in various garage bands (a raw rock and roll  form that was first popular from 1963 to 1967 in the United States and Canada). Johnny Depp married Lori Anne Allison, the sister of his band’s bass player and singer on December 24, 1983. During their marriage, his wife worked as a makeup artist, while Depp worked a variety of odd jobs, such as a telemarketer for pens. His wife introduced him to actor Nicolas Cage, and advised Depp to pursue an acting career. In 1985, Depp and his wife divorced. Johnny Depp and his fiancé at that time, Sherilyn Fenn auditioned for Thrashin’ the 1986 film and they were both cast, with Depp being chosen as the lead actor by the film’s director, which would have been Depp’s second major role but was later turned down by the film’s producer, who rejected the decision of the film director. Johnny Depp starred in a lead role on the 21 Jump Street a Fox television series, which premiered in 1987, and during the late 1980′s the success of the series turned Depp into a popular teen idol during the late 1980s.

8) Lady Gaga

American singer-songwriter, record producer, activist, businesswoman, fashion designer and actress known by her stage name Lady Gaga born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. born to Cynthia Bissett-Germanotta and Joseph Germanotta, an internet entrepreneur. Gaga is the elder of two children Her sister, Natali, a fashion student, was born in 1992. Gaga says that her parents “both came from lower-class families, so we have worked for everything, my mother worked eight to eight out of the house, in telecommunications, and so did my father.” Gaga was raised Roman Catholic. Gaga began playing the piano at the age of four, wrote her first piano ballad at thirteen, and started to perform at nightly open mic by the age of fourteen. Rob Fusari is a Grammy award winning, multi-platinum record producer, music executive and songwriter, claims to have created the “Lady Gaga” a nickname after the Queen song Radio Ga Ga. At that time, Stefani Germanotta now known as Lady Gaga was in the process of trying to come up with a stage name when she received a text message from Fusari that read Lady Gaga. After having an agreement with his boss Antonio “L.A.” Reid, Lady Gaga was signed to Def Jam in September 2006 with the plan of having an album ready in nine months. Unfortunately,Lady Gaga was dropped by the label after only three months, a devastating period of her life, and Gaga returned to the comfort of her family home for Christmas and the Lower East Side nightlife culture. She  was age 18, when she left home and worked as pole dancer, attracted herself with becoming known burlesque shows, go-go dancer at bars dressed in little more than a bikini, or thong, with a fringe (a decorative edging of hanging threads, cords, or strips, often attached to a separate band) hanging over her, lighting hairspray on fire, dancing with the beat of Black Sabbath and Gun N’ Roses songs, to support herself, and in addition to experimenting with drugs. During this time, she met performance artist Lady Starlight, who helped mold her on-stage persona.

9) Jon Hamm

American actor and director. Jonathan Daniel “Jon” Hamm, who once lived in Los Angeles as a struggling actor in the mid 1990s, but later made appearances in multiple television series. In 2000 he made his feature film debut in Clint Eastwood‘s space adventure, Space Cowboys. Hamm is the son of Deborah, a secretary of their own business and Daniel Hamm, who ran a family trucking company. Hamm was two when his parents divorced, and he lived in Creve Coeur, Missouri, with his mother, until her death from colon cancer, when he was age 10. Hamm then moved in with his father, who died when Hamm was 20. After his father’s death, Hamm returned home to attend the University of Missouri. At Missouri he answered an advertisement from a theater company looking for players in a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, auditioned, and was cast in the production. In 1993, Hamm graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and he returned to his high school to teach eighth-grade acting as a gesture of repayment for the school’s support during his adolescent years. Ellie Kemper, actress, was one of his students, best known for her role as Erin Hannon on The Office. Jon Hamm had known actor Paul Rudd for many years, and decided to visit him in 1992 in Hollywood. He did not wish to have his “normal career” as a teacher, Hamm moved to Los Angeles permanently in 1995. with an automobile and money, $150. He then moved into a house with four other aspiring actors and worked as a waiter, while attending auditions. It was very difficult for him to find employment as an actor despite representation by the William Morris Agency, because, of his age, older appearance unlike other actors, he could not be cast in youth-oriented productions like Dawson’s Creek. Having failed to obtain any acting jobs after three years, he was dropped by William Morris Agency in 1998. Hamm continued working as a waiter, and briefly as a set designer for a softcore pornography film. In 2000, Hamm was given the role as Burt Ridley, a romantic firefighter on NBC’s Providence drama series. His one-episode contract was extended to 19 episodes and led him to quit serving waiting tables.

10) Tom Cruise

Widely known as Tom Cruise, is an American film actor and producer, born, Thomas Cruise Mapother IV. He is the son of Mary Lee Pfeiffer, a special education teacher, and Thomas Cruise Mapother III (died 1984), an electrical engineer. Cruise has three sisters, Lee Anne, Marian, and Cass. He grew up in near poverty, and had a Catholic upbringing. Tom Cruise, before becoming a famous actor and getting his big break, the then 12-year-old Tom Cruise spent a short time in Kentucky where he was a paperboy for the Louisville Courier-Journal. In fact, it was Tom’s newspaper-delivery earnings that put food on the table, after Tom, his mom and his sister lived in near-poverty for a couple of years. When he was younger, he attended a Franciscan seminary in Cincinnati, on a church scholarship and inspired him to be a Catholic priest. but since his marriage to actress Mimi Rogers, she introduced Scientology to Cruise. The family was dominated by his abusive father, whom Cruise has described as “a merchant of chaos.” He was beaten by his father, who Cruise has said was a bully and coward. Tom Cruise and his family spent part of his childhood in Canada, but in the spring of that year Cruise’s mother left his father, taking Tom and his sisters back to the US. His father died of cancer.

11) Liam Neeson

Irish actor Liam John Neeson, OBE, better known as Liam Neeson, best known for his roles in Schindler’s List, Star Wars:Episode -The Pahntom Menace. Born to Katherine “Kitty” Brown- Neeson, a cook, and Bernard “Barney” Neeson, a caretaker at the Ballymena Boys All Saints Primary School. He was raised Roman Catholic. Neeson married actress Natasha Richardson, on July 3,1994,and together they had two sons, Micheál and Daniel. Natasha Richardson-Neeson died from a skiing accident at the Mont Tremblant Resort, north of Montreal, suffering from sever head injury on March 18, 2009. Liam Neeson is the third of four siblings, he has three sisters: Elizabeth, Bernadette, and Rosaline. Neeson was enrolled at Queen’s University Belfast in Northern Ireland, in 1971, as a physics and computer science student, before leaving to work for the Guinness Brewery, largest brewery in Ireland. There was a football club trial in Dublin, and Neeson played one game as a substitute against Shamrock Rovers, but he was not offered a contract. Liam Neeson returned to Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, after he left the university, where he worked in a variety of casual odd jobs, from a fork-lift operator at and a truck driver at Guinness Brewery. He also attended in Newcastle, County Down as teacher training college for two years, before again returning to his hometown. In 1980, Filmmaker John Boorman, saw him on stage, portraying the role as Lennie Small in Of Mice and Men, and offered him in the Arthurian film, Excalibur, as the part of Sir Gawain. Neeson moved to London, after doing the Excalibur, where he continued working on stage, in small budget films and in television. Neeson moved to Hollywood in 1987, to star in high-profile roles, and starred alongside Cher and Dennis Quaid in the film Suspect, in a role that brought him critical acclaim.

12) Clint Eastwood

American film actor, director, producer, composer, pianist, and politician Clinton “Clint” Eastwood, Jr. was born in San Francisco, California, to Clinton Eastwood, Sr. (1906–1970), a steelworker and migrant worker, and Margaret Ruth Runner-Eastwood (1909–2006), a factory worker. and was raised in a working class home with his younger sister, Jeanne (born 1934). His family often moved due to his father’s nature of work at jobs along the West Coast. Instead, he attended Oakland Technical High School, where the drama teachers encouraged him to take part in school plays, but he was not interested. Eastwood worked at various odd jobs, such as lifeguard, paper carrier, grocery clerk, forest firefighter, and golf caddy. During the Korean War, in 1951, Eastwood was drafted by the United States Army, and assigned to Fort Ord in California, serving as a lifeguard.

13) Sylvester Stallone

American actor, screenwriter and film director Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone, well known for his Hollywood action roles in his two notable characters as boxer Rocky Balboa and soldier John Rambo. Stallone wrote every episode of two eponymous franchises, and directed some of their installments as well. Sylvester Stallone first odd job, when he starred in the soft core pornography (a pornographic or erotic film or photograph that is less sexually explicit than hardcore pornography) featuring film 1970′s The Party at Kitty and Stud’s, and was paid $200 for two days’ work. Stallone explained that he had done the pornographic film out of desperation after being evicted from his apartment and finding himself homeless for several days. He also revealed that he slept three weeks in the New York City Port Authority bus station prior to seeing a casting notice for the film. Stallone stated, “it was either do that movie or rob someone, because I was at the end, the very end of my rope”. Stallone’s other first few film roles were minor, and included brief uncredited appearances in 1971′s Wooy Allen’s Bananas, as a subway robber, in the 1971′s psychological thriller Khute, as an extra dancing in a club, and in the 1975′s The Prisoner of Second Avenue a Jack Lemmon film, as a youth. On March 24, 1975, Stallone saw the Muhammad Ali vs Chuck Wepner fight on March 24, 1975, and was inspired to write and became the foundation idea of Rocky. That night Stallone went home, he wrote the script and after three days, 20 straight hours, Stallone tried to sell the script with the intention of playing the lead role. American film producer Robert Chartoff and American film producer and director Irwin Winkler liked the script, offered Stallone larger fees to sell the script and allow a different actor to star in the film, but he turned down the offers until the studio agreed to let Stallone himself play the role.

14) Channing Tatum

American actor and film producer, Channing Matthew Tatum, best known for his roles in 2006 Step Up, G.I. Joe:The Rise of Cobra in 2009, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation in 2013. He is the son of Kay Faust-Tatum, an airline worker, and Glenn Tatum, who worked in construction. Tatum attended Glenville State College in West Virginia, on a football scholarship, but dropped out. Tatum returned home and started working odd jobs and according to US Weekly report, Tatum left his job as a roofer and began working as a stripper at a local nightclub, using the screen name as Chan Crawford. In 2010 interview, he told an Australian newspaper that he wanted to make a movie about his experiences as a stripper, and led him to the Magic Mike movie with that idea. Tatum moved to Miami, where he was discovered by a talent scout and became a model. Channing Tatum was first cast in 2000, as a back up dancer in Ricky Martin‘s music video She Bangs, after an audition in Orlando, Florida, and was paid $400 for the job. His modelling experience in the fashion industry began and worked for such noted clients such as Armani and Abercrombie & Fitch, and soon moved into television national spots commercials in 2002, for Pepsi and Mountain Dew. Tatum was diagnosed with ADD and similar case to dyslexia during his childhood.

15) Brad Pitt

American actor and film producer. William Bradley “Brad” Pitt, has been described as one of the most attractive and sexiest man in the world receiving a media attention and most publicized publicity with partner actress Angelina Jolie, and both have six children together. Pitt is the son of Jane Etta Hillhouse, a high school counselor, and William Alvin Pitt, a truck company owner. The family lived in Springfield, Missouri, where Pitt and his younger siblings grew up, Doug (born 1966) and Julie Neal (born 1969). Brad Pitt attended Kickapoo High School, where he was a member of the golf, swimming, tennis, and wrestling teams. In 1982, Pitt enrolled in the University of Missouri, taking major in journalism with a focus on advertising. Pitt did not feel ready to settle down with his chosen profession, and just two weeks before earning his degree, Pitt left the university and moved to Los Angeles, where he took acting lessons, and while a struggling actor, he worked odd jobs to support his acting classes and living off paychecks. He worked as a deliveryman for refrigerator and worked as a mascot wearing a yellow chicken suit promoting the chain of Mexican restaurants, El Pollo Loco. Pitt also worked as a limousine driver, chauffeuring VIPs around town, and one of his passengers, who happened to be a casting agent, discovered his hunky good looks and offered him an audition.

16) Oprah Winfrey

American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer and philanthropist, Oprah Gail Winfrey, has been ranked the richest African-American of the 20th century the greatest black philanthropist in American history and was known as the only black billionaire in the world, for a time. Oprah Winfrey was born to an unmarried teenage mother, Vernita Lee, a housemaid. Winfrey had believed that her biological father was the coal miner, Vernon Winfrey (born 1933), turned barber and later became a city councilman who had been in the Armed Forces during the birth of Oprah Winfrey. However, after a decades, Noah Robinson, Sr. a Mississippi farmer and World War II veteran Noah Robinson, Sr. claimed to be her biological father. Oprah and her mother traveled north after she was born, and Winfrey spent her first six years living in rural poverty with her grandmother, Hattie Mae Lee (died February 27, 1963), who was so poor that Winfrey often wore dresses made of potato sacks, and children made fun of her. At age six, Winfrey moved to her mother in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, an inner-city neighborhood who was less supportive than her grandmother,may be  due to the long hours she worked as a maid. During this time, Lee had given birth to another daughter, named Patricia, Winfrey’s younger half-sister, who died at the age 0f 43, in February 2003, and cause of death was related to addiction to cocaine. Oprah Winfrey was temporarily sent to live with her father, Vernon in Nashville, Tennessee in 1962, when her mother, Lee had difficulty of raising both daughters. While Winfrey was in Nashville, Lee gave birth to a third daughter who was given up for adoption, who was also named Patricia, ( hoping to ease the financial difficulties and led to Lee’s being on welfare). Oprah Winfrey was not aware of her second half-sister until 2010. When Winfrey moved back to live with mother, Lee , she again gave birth to a boy named Jeffrey, however, Oprah’s half-brother, died in 1989 of AIDS-related causes. At the age of  13, after suffering years of sex abuse and was molested by her cousin, uncle, and a family friend, Oprah Winfrey ran away from home. As a teenager, her first job was working at a local grocery store. Winfrey won the Miss Black Tennessee beauty pageant at the age of seventeen. Winfrey attracted the attention of the WVOL local black radio station, which hired her to do the news part-time.

17) Michelle Pfeiffer

American actress Michelle Marie Pfeiffer, the second of four children of Richard Pfeiffer, a heating and air-conditioning contractor, and Donna Taverna, a housewife. She has one elder brother, Rick (born 1955), and two younger sisters, a television and film actress Dedee Pfeiffer, and Lori Pfeiffer (born 1965). Before becoming a famous actress, Michelle Pfeiffer, worked odd jobs such as check-out girl at Vons supermarket, while attending Golden West College. After a short stint training to be a court stenographer, she decided upon an acting career. In 1978, Pfeiffer won the Miss Orange County beauty pageant, and joined another pageant in Miss California that same year, won in sixth position. Following her participation in these pageants, she was discovered by an acting agent and began to audition for television and films. Pfeiffer was set up on a blind date in January 1993, with television writer and producer David E. Kelley, and they both married on November 13, 1993. Prior to meeting David Kelley, Pfeiffer had entered a proceedings in private adoption, and in March 1993, the adoption of her newborn daughter, Claudia Rose was granted. Pfeiffer gave birth to a son, John Henry Kelley in August 1994.

18) Mariah Carey

American actress, singer, songwriter, record producer and philanthropist,  Mariah Carey, born to African American-Venezuelan father, Alfred Roy,and  her mother, Patricia Hickey, is of white Irish descent. Patricia’s family disowned her, after their elopement due to marrying a man of color. Mariah Carey stated in one interview that growing up, she felt a neglected feeling from her maternal family. And due to this ethnicity, Mariah Carey’s family experienced personal struggles within the community. Her parents divorced due to the increasingly strenuous nature of their marriage when Mariah was age three. Mariah Carey started living in a one studio type bedroom in Manhattan, which she shared with four other female students. Carey worked as a waitress for various restaurants,while studying to support her needs, but commonly getting fired after two-week working intervals, due to her behavior. While looking for work to pay for her rent, Carey’s mind and effort still focused with her musical ambitions, as she continued working late until midnight with Margulies, in hopes of completing a demo that could be passed on to recording executives. Carey experienced failure each time she passed her song demo tape, but after so many failures, she was introduced to Brenda K. Starr, a rising pop singer.

19)  Sir Sean Connery

Scottish actor and producer Sir Thomas Sean Connery, best known for portraying the James Bond character, which starred him in seven Bond films between 1962 and 1983. The People Magazine proclaimed Sean Connery as the “Sexiest Man Alive”in 1989 and in 1999, at age 69, he was voted “Sexiest Man of the Century”. His mother, Euphemia McBain “Effie” McLean, was a cleaning woman, and his father, Joseph Connery, was a factory worker and lorry driver. Connery’s first odd job was as a milkman in Edinburgh with St. Cuthbert’s Co-operative Society. Connery then joined the Royal Navy, but was later discharged from the navy on medical grounds of a condition affecting male generations of Connery’s family, known as the duodenal ulcer. He returned to the co-op, after his released from the navy, and worked among other odd jobs, as a lorry driver, a lifeguard at Portbello swimming baths, a laborer, a coffin polisher and an Edinburgh College of Art artists model, after a suggestion by Archie Brennan, a former Mr. Scotland. As a model, Connery earned 15 shillings an hour. At the age of 18, Connery began bodybuilding, and and was trained by former gym instructor in the British army, Ellington, from 1951. From 1962 to 1973, Connery was married to actress Diane Cilento.  Together they had a son, actor Jason Connery. Sean Connery has been married to Micheline Roquebrune, a Moroccan-French painter since 1975.

20) Harrison Ford

American film actor and producer Harrison Ford famous for his performances as Han Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy and the lead character of the Indiana Jones film series. Ford is the husband of actress Calista Flockhart. Ford was born to mother, former radio actress and homemaker, Dorothy Dora Nidelman, and his father, former actor and advertising executive, Christopher Ford (born John William Ford). Ford has a younger brother, Terence Ford, (an American actor and photographer) was born in 1945. In 1959 to 1960, Harrison Ford worked as the first high school student voice broadcast on high school’s new radio station, WMTH, as the first sportscaster during his senior year. In 1964, Ford traveled to Los Angeles, California in 1964, to apply for a job as radio voice-overs, but failed to get the job, but stayed in California and eventually signed with Columbia Pictures’ New Talent program, a $150 a week contract, playing bit roles in films. His first known part in 1966 film Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round, was an uncredited role as a bellhop (hotel porter or bellboy), played extra without any dialogue in film. Ford was at the bottom of the hiring list, having offended producer Jerry Tokovsky after he played a bellboy in the film feature. He was told by Tokovsky that when actor Tony Curtis, delivered a bag of groceries, he did it like a movie star,Ford felt his job was to act like a bellboy. In 1967, Ford speaking roles continued next with the movie Luv, but his role was still uncredited. Ford worked as carpenter and was then hired to build cabinets at the home of director George Lucas, who later cast him in a crucial supporting role for his film 1973 American Graffiti. Ford’s relationship with Lucas would deeply affect his career in the later years. After director Francis Ford Coppola‘s The Godfather film became a big hit and success, he hired Harrison Ford to expand his office and casts him in small roles in his next two films, 1974 The Conversation and 1979 Apocalypse Now, where he played an army officer named G. Lucas. Harrison Ford’s carpentry work eventually helped a lot to land him his first starring film role. Director George Lucas hired Ford in 1975,  to read lines for actors auditioning for parts in the 1977 Star Wars film, where director George Lucas was won over by Ford’s portrayal, and cast him as Han Solo.
