Spanish IO Foundation study came out with statistics that revealed a total of 379 people had died within 2008 to 2021 while taking selfie. Experts have suggested that no zone selfies should be implemented to avoid these accidental deaths. Below are some sad stories of individuals who lost their lives while trying to snap that perfect selfie shot.
1. Richard Jacobson, a 21 year old hiker, accidentally slipped to his death on January of 2022, while taking a selfie in the Superstition Mountains located near Phoenix, Arizona. According to his best friend, Paul Blanco, Richard Jacobson is involved in Washington and Utah missionary works and has been passionate about his faith and enjoys teaching others.
2. In October 2016, a young 12 year old girl known as Oksana B, took a photo on a railing on top of their apartment building. She was able to send her photo to her friend. Police believed that she lost her balance and fell to her death.
3. A Chinese man with a good amount of Youtube followers named, Wu Yongning, fell from a 60 story building (Huayuan Hua Center.) Around November of 2017, Wu Yongning’s youtube post went on halt. This is when police discovered that he actually died while taking his dare-devlish selfie.
4. January, 20210, a British Instagram model/influencer, Madalyn Davis fell down to her death while taking a selfie at Diamond Bay Reserve in Sydney Australia. According to information, she’s a beautician and has traveled Asia before heading to Australia. She has 14,000 Instagram followers. After her death tributes were relayed on her Instagram page.
5. In Panama, 2018, a Portuguese woman fell off a high rise building balcony while taking a selfie. The horrifying moment was caught on film. Sandra Manuela De Costa Macedo, 27 just arrived in Panama to work as a teacher before falling to her death.
